Hall Conservation worked closely with Wates Construction for the London Business School on an ambitious two year project to restore the Grade II-listed Old Marylebone Town Hall.
The aim was to restore the building and to create a modern learning facility. Hall Conservation was commissioned to carry out a conservation survey of the historic metalwork and to prepare a specification for its conservation treatment and long term preservation. The items we restored included staircases, handrails, sculpture, and windows. Some items were restored onsite, others were dismantled and taken back to our workshops. Our team worked over several different locations across the huge building at the same time. The restoration process lasted nearly two years in total, with the client consulted and kept up to date with deadlines and budget throughout the work. Specific examples from this large and very varied project will be covered in future posts.
