After several months away in our workshops, the the Grade II listed Warrington Golden Gates are returning home.
Back in Feb 2019, the gates were carefully dismantled and the footings to the gate posts exposed, enabling us to work with an archaeologist employed under a watching and advising brief. The cast iron components were then inspected and the scope of the repairs was formally agreed with Warrington Council. The existing paint was cleaned off by hand and all debris were removed. The components were laser scanned. We carried out some on-site repairs and backfill excavations. When they were dismantled, the gates were transferred to our workshops in London where they were more fully inspected. They were then repaired and repainted.
It’s a great pleasure to see these wonderful pieces of heritage returned to Warrington restored for future generations to enjoy.
