Project Information

This Roman lead coffin was extremely fragile and in need of a mount.

A stainless steel mount was made to fit the internal dimensions of the coffin. After lining the coffin with plastic sheeting the mount was inserted and fixed into position.

This mount alone is not enough to support the coffin – the lead would slump over the mount causing pressure points so an expanding foam was injected into the cavity to provide additional strength.
